Quick update
# posted by Chronodin @ 12:42 AM
Man, it's been a busy couple of days. I had my first actual honest-to-goodness interview today (well, yesterday, technically) and have been working my tail off trying to clean up around the house. It's just unbelievable how much junk there is. I also decided to sell most or all of my old SNES games, and upon looking on half.com, it looks like a number of them actually sell for a good bit (such as Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy III and, of all things, Earthbound).
I managed to replenish my link list a good bit, and as proof, here's a video of Jon Stewart on the Daily Show reporting about Senator Stevens'... interesting description of the internet.

This is only a test.
# posted by Chronodin @ 11:14 PM
Ok, not ONLY a test, but a test nonetheless. Wil Wheaton mentioned on his blog (or the placeholder for his normal blog, while he updates to a temporary one... it's complicated) about one blog-updater script he was trying out. It's a plug-in for Firefox (which I just so happen to be using), so we'll see how it works. If this post looks normal, then it works! It's called Performancing, if anyone cares.
And just so this post isn't a total waste of your time, here is a video of the coolest bird you'll ever see -- or hear, I should say.

The Walk of Shame

Okay, I know I'm not the "Link Master" that Chronodin is, but when I do bring up a link, I try to make sure it "brings in teh funnay." Unlike myself with that "joke." Anyway, here's a Zelda-related machinima that features audio not safe for work (or the prude, like Chronodin).

I never did get the hang of Thursdays

Not a lot to talk about, so how about some links?

.:[ Links ]:.
- Moonsault off fat guy - Even if you aren't into wrestling, check this video out.
- Wii price/date announced in September - I guess I kinda just gave away the whole article. Whoops.
- Dirty car art - This beats the pants off of "Wash me! :( "
- The best game in the world - Don't forget to post your high score.
- Windows keyboard shortcuts - I try to avoid moving my hand to my mouse at all possible, so the more shortcuts I can memorize, the better. Interesting information that can save you some time.
- Man sues Jordan for looking like him - Yes, you read that right. Read on. I also saw the guy on Jimmy Kimmel last night. Jimmy had him on the street and they were asking people passing by who he looked like. Maybe two people said Michael Jordan. Seriously, this guy is off his rocker.
- Jesus billboard - Makes sense in a way.
- Device to read Blu-ray and HD-DVD - I knew it was only a matter of time before something like this came out. Didn't think it'd be so soon though. I'm quite interested in seeing how much this will run.
- Zidane headbutt game - So apparently this soccer player headbutted another player during a game. Let another internet fad be born.
- Case mod contest winner - I'd love to see someone typing on this at Starbucks.
- Invisibility cloak - This is a mixture of "how it works" and "exposing a hoax", but either way, it's one step closer to an honest-to-God invisibility cloak.
- Maunsell Army Sea Forts - Like a true geek, the first thing these reminded me of were several different scenes from Star Wars.
- Sony BRAVIA commercial - This is an awesome commercial.
- The Great Skate Mistake - Eh, gotta give them credit for trying.
And here is a picture of Mega Man getting his groove on.

Sony the Racists?
# posted by Zillax0rz @ 8:13 PM
Looks like the "Big S" (no, not Superman) is once again in hot water over another one of their ad campaigns. The following billboard has been gaining a ton of negative press for Sony...

White-on-black hate crime, am I right? White Power? Call it whatever you want, but it's obvious that SOMEONE would find this offensive. Personally, I think we should let all racial slurs and stereotypes roam free until they lose all meaning and thus abolishing racism. I'm sick of it. The more we argue and look for racism in every single thing, the longer it'll stay with us.
In any case, the real reason for me even talking about this is so I can post the following parody:

CNN knows their Wii
# posted by Chronodin @ 9:18 PM
Sorry, couldn't resist.
CNN has a commentary regarding the Nintendo Wii in which some unnamed sources say they (and most of the industry) expect Nintendo to release the Wii earlier than previously expected -- the earlier being around the same time as Sony's PS3 in mid-November, and the new date being October or even late September. Honestly, I can believe it, considering that, one, there are reports saying Nintendo has already started production on the final units, and two, Nintendo is really doing what they can to keep things affordable for everyone, themselves included. I really don't think this will make the Wii "cheap", but innovation isn't necessarily expensive -- it's growing and increasing technology that is expensive, and that is the route Microsoft and, especially, Sony are taking.
Sony's strategy is... interesting, to say the least, but the best explanation for their rediculous pricing of the PS3 comes in two little words: Blu-ray. The PS3 is a Blu-ray player -- Blu-ray being one of the two supposed next-generation high-definition formats, the other being HD-DVD, neither of which looks to be making a huge splash, but that's another discussion altogether.
Why is the Playstation 3's status as a Blu-ray player important, you say? I'm glad you asked.
Just take a gander here, a simple Froogle search for Blu-ray player. Or, if you're not convinced, check out Best Buy's offerings. Not too many choices just yet, but what you do have to choose from, or will once they're released, do have something in common -- the price. Both Sony and Samsung's Blu-ray players retail at Best Buy for $999.99. That's the standard price. The Playstation 3's $599 suddenly doesn't seem so bad, does it?
In short -- as it looks now, the Playstation 3 when released will be the cheapest Blu-ray player on the market by several hundred dollars.
Many Sony isn't as dumb we thought...

- Coaster crash video - I've got a handful of videos for you this time. And, no, this isn't a video of a real coaster, but one that somebody built in Roller Coaster Tycoon. You can watch this one without cringing, I promise.
- Lego Star Wars II screenshot - This screenshot ruins years of innocent fun as a child playing with Legos. I had no idea.
- Sony's E3 Press Conference in 1 minute - I can do it in two words. I bet you can't guess what two.
- Scooby-Doo is back - I was never really a big fan of Scooby-Doo, and let me tell you, this isn't exactly winning me over.
- Video of Hy-Wire automobile - GM's prototype car that runs on a combination of a hydrogen fuel cell and, I quote, "by-wire technology." I don't claim to understand it, but it could be a sign of things to come.
- Dominos Scroll IV - Oblivion + physics engine + bored nerds = this.
- Crono vs Everyone - I thought this was going to be really cheesy at first, but it's actually pretty cool.
- World's worst illusionist - I can do that. In fact, I do, sometimes.
- MMOGChart.com - Just what it says -- charts regarding statistics of MMORPGs such as popularity since their inception, market share and the like.
- Booby-trapped DS Lite box - This might be the coolest thing Nintendo's ever done.
- Willard Wigan "Micro Sculptor" - This is pretty incredible, this guy make TINY sculptures -- like, the size of a pinhead. It's rediculous.
- Captin [sic] Nod's Paper Models - I'd totally make these if I had the chance. Don't miss if you're a Quake fan.
- Ideas that have changed gaming - I always enjoy these retrospective views of video games, and it's neat to see what games started these trends.
- Pool trick shots - I can do those... no I can't.
- Sviatoslav Richter playing piano - I'm surprised I've never heard of this guy. If you look at the related videos, there are more of him -- older videos of this incredible pianist.
- The Size of Our World - That kind of puts things into perspective.
- Zelda II Swordplay explained - I loved Zelda II and felt it never got the respect it truly deserved. It's a great game, but I never realized just how complex the swordplay really is in this game.
- Hamster wheel gone wrong - You'll watch this one at least twice.
- PS3 games not necessarily $59.99 - No, maybe Sony really is as dumb as we thought.
Bryan Singer: The Uwe Boll of Super Hero Movies
# posted by Zillax0rz @ 2:18 PM
Bryan Singer is quickly building up a reputation as the go-to director for super hero movies. He was behind the first two X-Men movies and he's also the director of the just-released Superman Returns flick and lemme tell ya; he ruined them all. He's a cancer to super hero movies just like Uwe Boll is a blight upon game-to-movie adaptations.
With the first two X-Men movies, he watered down everything. Wolverine went from an unforgiving badass in the comics to the softie protector of underage jailbait. He de-emphasized every character but having them wear matching uniforms instead of retaining the aesthetics that made each one unique. On top of that, he tried to mash in a love triangle between the main characters instead of giving comic book nerds what they deserved: action and fantasy.
Superman Returns was a step up from his X-Men performances; he kept the same costume, modernizing it without tarnishing it, but he made the same story mistake: making the movie a love story instead of an action blockbuster. Superman Returns starts out hard and fast, but at the end of the 150 minutes, you feel like you watched a chick flick. Superman Returns is a story about Superman's and Lois' love, not a battle between Superman and Lex Luthor.
Plus, there's one little twist halfway through that made me want to vomit.
Bryan Singer, I give you props on style and design, but when it comes to drafting a story, you have a lot to learn. 4 comments links to this post

Guitar Hero
# posted by Chronodin @ 2:18 PM
As you probably noticed, we now have another poster on NerdCentral! Welcome Zilla to the Central... *tugs up on his britches*... y'all treat 'im real nice-like, y'hear? *spits*
I don't know where that came from, and I apologize.
Being obsessed with Guitar Hero to a perhaps unhealthy degree, when Gennix sent me links to a couple Guitar Hero videos, well, I was eager to view, and also eager to share, so here they are!

- "Bark at the Moon" on expert - The video is just what it says, some guy wiping the floor with the hardest regular Guitar Hero song (I'm not counting the bonus ones, a few of which are pretty rediculous) on the hardest level. It's not perfect, but darn close.
- Guitar Hero 2 preview - I'm REALLY excited for this game. Three reasons, and I'm sure they're the same as everyone else: 1) Co-op multiplayer where you play different parts, often lead and bass; 2) New songs, duh; and 3) Practice mode, something SORELY missing from Guitar Hero 1.
