Cat-speak
# posted by Chronodin @ 10:36 AM
It's nothing that unusual for a dog to wake you up in the morning from barking, whether they need to go out and pee or what have you.
But cats?!
Both of our cats... not just one of them, but both... have developed this habit of meowing quite loudly early in the morning. Like, around 6am. It's not this cute little meow, either. It's more of a, "mmmmrrrroooooOOOOOWWWWW". I think it translates from cat-speak into, "Hey, I'm up! YOU SHOULD BE TOO!"
I think what I'm going to do from now on is, every time I see either of them sleeping throughout the day, I'm going to shake them violently to wake them up. That way, when it comes time for ME to go to bed, and I finally let them sleep peacefully, they'll be so exhausted that they'll sleep at least until I want to wake up.
It's conducive to their well-being that they're so freakin' cute.

News from a galaxy, far, far away

Happy Memorial Day!
To help you celebrate, I give you some preview trailers from a few upcoming Star Wars... well... things.
The first is a game called The Force Unleashed, in which you play Darth Vader's apprentice. The video is pretty much all concept art, but interesting nonetheless.
I'm actually not sure what system this will be released for -- it might not be announced yet -- but, as early as the game still is, there's a lot of potential.
And, due out in 2008, is one of TWO -- count 'em, two! -- new Star Wars television shows. This one, The Clone Wars, is all computer-generated, and takes place, as you might guess, between Episodes II and III.
The other TV series is going to be live action, but I haven't seen much about that one just yet. This one still looks pretty awesome, though.

And if you're like me and something else you know very little about is golf, this video should help you out!

Good news / bad news
# posted by Chronodin @ 9:33 PM
The good news:
I turned on the television tonight, just to see what was on, and, lo! what dost mine eyes behold? NBC started aired Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip again! Hooray! I'm a huge fan of the show, and have been very upset by the fact that a lot of people don't seem to share my respect for it.
Maybe this is a good sign, I thought to myself optimistically.
The bad news:
I looked on Wikipedia, and, alas, I found that apparently Studio 60 was announced as being canceled a little over a week ago.
Nooooo! I thought.
I did some more examining, finding this article listing what other shows NBC has canceled. Among them, Identity, Thank God You're Here and Raines.
WHYYYYYYY!?
I've said it before, but hasn't NBC noticed that three of the shows they're canceling (Studio 60, The Real Wedding Crashers and The Black Donnelly's) were all in the same time slot? Could it POSSIBLY be that 10 o'clock at night is not the most ratings-heavy time slot? At least for new shows? I think they have Law & Order on there now or something, which will ALWAYS do decently, because it's Law & Order (or CSI or something like that).
As a side note, the time slot they have Studio 60 airing now is 10:00 on Thursday nights. Up against Shark, which I believe has been getting good ratings (mine included... until they put the two shows up against each other. Grr...)
Darn you NBC!!

Cleaning up Thunder Bluff
# posted by Chronodin @ 10:02 AM
There's a very interesting article over at Gamers With Jobs that discusses the attitude that a lot of online gamers seem to have, particularly the way they act towards female gamers, but it addresses how they speak and act in general.
As some of you may know, I'm not a huge online gamer... it's not that I don't like playing games multiplayer -- I definitely do -- but it seems whenever I go online (besides the fact that I'm beaten horribly because all my strategies and skills are oriented towards single-player due to my limited online experience), I'm greeted with curse words, insults and general rudeness. No, I'm not a prude who is offended by cursing, but so much of it gets annoying, and while a little harassing is fun when playing a game against someone, quite often it gets pretty out of hand and makes the game that much less fun.
What do you think? Do online multiplayer games need cleaned up?

Anybody been watching Heroes? The season finale was tonight. It was good... not too many huge surprises, though a few, and a nice peek into season two. A solid all-around episode that makes me eager for season two!
Another huge event was, of course, the announcement of Starcraft II (see previous post). If you'd like a nice, long look at some gameplay footage, then I can hook you up. I'm not the biggest RTS gamer in the world, but I'll very likely be picking this one whenever it comes out (which is, according to Blizzard, "when it's done." Did we expect anything more from them?)
As you may or may not know, I'm a huge fan of Final Fantasy Tactics -- the original, mostly, though FFT Advance was good as well (and I'll certainly be getting FFTA2 when it comes out). Well, you might have heard that they're re-releasing the game on the PSP (grumble), but what you might not have heard is that it's not exactly the best porting job they could have done. Could this version be inferior to the original Playstation version? Judge for yourself.
A link I found entertaining, keeping up all the video game news, is a list of the Top Ten Most Memorable Video Game Quotes. Most of these are memorable because they're bad, which I sort of think should be a separate list (Top Ten Most Memorable Bad Video Game Quotes) but the list is good either way, though I don't know how memorable the first one really is, but hey, it's not my list.
Okay! To kick off some non-video game links, here is a video of a Mother's Day photo session. Really warms your heart:
A little late, I know, but you'll enjoy it anyway.
Here are supposed maintenance logs from UPS airplane mechanics. Probably made up, but funny anyway. Courtesy of Dvorak-dot-org-slash-blog.
Did you see Batman Begins? Are you excited for the sequel? Here is some news about the upcoming Batman movie, The Dark Knight.
And no post is complete without a life-sized picture of a whale. Good lord that's big.
If you didn't watch the Heroes season finale, shame on you. Go download it on iTunes!

Final Fantasy IV remake announced!
# posted by Chronodin @ 9:23 AM
Square-Enix made a couple announcements prior to their big party thing they throw in May. One of them had to do with a version of Final Fantasy XII with English language and an updated job system (for Japan, obviously).
But the more IMPORTANT announcement (in my eyes, at least) is that of a 3D remake of Final Fantasy IV for the DS! Check out this magazine scan with screenshots (courtesy of RPGamer).
I'm SUPER excited for this one. Give us a release date!

Before you start thinking I've flipped more than normal, that's a line from Jonathan Coulton's song "re: Your Brains". I actually found this link to a music video of the song from Blogger's page, and though if you hadn't seen it, it was definitely worth a view. The song is great, and the Warcraft-themed video is pretty good as well.
Also! Have you seen the new Hotmail? I should get paid for this plug, but alas, I'm not. That should tell you that, believe it or not, it's actually worth checking out now. They recently released a major update for the service that makes it -- *GASP* -- actually worth using! I'm still loyal to Gmail, but this now appears to be a pretty decent alternative. Give it a whirl, or if you aready have a Hotmail account, make sure to try the new interface.
